Hour of Code

On Thursday December 7, 2017 Forrestal Elementary school welcomed Doug O’Reilly. Doug is the IT Application Director from Uline. He has over 20 years of computer experience. The second and third graders at Forrestal are venturing into coding and have started this year with the Hour of Code which kicked off this week. Mr. O’Reilly came in to talk to the third graders about computer programming and how many jobs there are available in the field. Mr. O’Reilly also discussed what he does in his career and how important it is for students to learn how to code and have fun with it right now. He shared with the students his favorite games he plays and how his kids practice code every day.  The third graders were very excited when Doug showed them some cool new things that are coming for Minecraft. The kids were really excited to hear about how they can build games and make money in the future with the coding skills they are learning.  We just might have some future computer programmers in our third grade classes.
